There is no official Pocket successor. Instapaper, Readwise Reader, and Matter still win if you want to finish or listen to articles. Ranked by job below.

Markwisethis site
Best for: A library you can ask, not only a reading queue
Imports Pocket CSV. Auto-tags. Pro searches by meaning. Not an offline reader or TTS app.
Markwise vs PocketInstapaper
Best for: The closest classic read-later
Clean reading, speed control, still alive. Keyword search, not a Copilot.
Markwise vs InstapaperReadwise Reader
Best for: Power reading, RSS, PDFs, spaced-repetition highlights
Best-in-class inbox for people who actually finish pieces. $9.99/month billed annually. Overkill if you only needed Pocket's save button.
Markwise vs ReaderMatter
Best for: Listening to articles
Class-leading text-to-speech. Newsletter/RSS inbox. Different job from retrieval.

AGPLv3, free to self-host, cloud from $3/user/month billed yearly. Keeps a copy of each page. More setup than a hosted app.

Questions
I still have a Pocket ZIP. What now?+
Unzip it. Import the CSV into Markwise (Pro bulk import) or convert it to bookmarks.html with the free Pocket converter if you want it in a browser first. The converter does not upload the file; it runs in your browser.
Does the Pocket converter upload my export?+
No. Nothing is uploaded. Conversion stays in the browser. Signing in to Markwise to bulk-import the CSV is a separate step, and only if you want the library.
Is Markwise a reading-queue Pocket alternative?+
No. Instapaper, Readwise Reader, and Matter still win at finishing or listening to articles. Markwise is a library you can ask. Free keeps 50 bookmarks with text search; meaning search, Copilot, and bulk import are Pro.
